Every year since 2019 we have mobilised our neighbourhood to plant trees along the banks of the river.
Before the rainy season we regularly plant indigenous plants along the banks of the canal and we invite our community to come out to plant too.
Our new initiative is to remove invasive alien vegetation from the banks of our river.
We have installed a number of litter traps along the reach. We regularly empty them filling up to 30 bags of plastic pollution that would have continued onto the sea.
We hold monthly clean up events to remove litter from the banks of the river.
We engage with our local schools and children to help install litter traps and plant trees. It is a great “hands on” way of learnt about caring for nature.
We use posters and social media to inform our community about ways they can care for the river.
All our events are run by volunteers and work only because we invite our community to get involved too. We ensure our initiatives are fun and family friendly.
We have partnered with Network, a local NPO, to use our funds to employ people to assist our volunteers with clean ups, tree hole digging and other nature-caring roles. This helps provide work opportunities to people who have lost their livelihoods
